Do you know what this is? These are snake scales! Do you know what this is?

These are snake scales!
Let’s learn more about snake scales!

Actually, these are snake scales left behind after the shedding process

Generally, snakes shed their skin very frequently, usually once a month.

The reason they shed their skin is to adjust to their body size, meaning that as the snake grows, the shedding process occurs. It also serves as a process of rejuvenation or regeneration of the old skin. Additionally, in the wild, the shedding process helps snakes remove parasites attached to their bodies.

Snake skin itself is made of keratin, the same material that forms human nails and hair. Nearly the entire snake’s body is covered in scales, so its skin is protected by these rough scales—a feature that also helps them move by utilizing friction between their skin and their surroundings.

Wow, that’s really fascinating! From these snake scales, we learn that the regeneration process is extremely important; with new skin, these creatures transform into much stronger and healthier versions of themselves.

Thank you for watching, and stay tuned for our next video!

"This is the Reticulated Python, or Malayopython reticulatus. Guinness World Records has recognized this species as the longest snake in the world. And even crazier, just this year in 2026, a new record was set in Sulawesi with a length of 7.2 meters! Imagine just how massive it is."

Their jaws are connected by extremely elastic ligaments, allowing their mouths to open incredibly wide—up to five times the size of their heads.

“With prey as large as a goat, the Batik Python takes up to a month to fully digest every part of its prey until nothing remains. Their metabolic system is incredibly efficient at processing nutrients over such a long period.”

“Well, if you want to see a snake this big eat in person, come visit Bali Reptile Park!”
